Buy a cask of whisky. We realise that sentence can sound a little daunting, and that you might need to know a lot about whisky to even think about delving into a whole cask. But in reality, we have a really wide range of cask owners - from whisky buffs to total newbies.
WHO REALLY BUYS A BARREL OF WHISKY?
Of course, we have some well seasoned cask owners who have casks in various distilleries - but the majority of our cask owners are first timers. You also don't have to go it alone, investing in a cask as part of a group can often be the most fun and exciting way of going about it. We have plenty of groups of families and friends who have all chipped in to buy a cask together to share the bottles once they have matured. We’ve even had whole whisky groups who have bought a barrel, where there have been 50+ participants buying a single cask!
Some have bought a cask to give to their new born grandchild as a gift for when they reach 18, others have bought as part of a group of family and friends who really enjoy a dram and want to share the bottles once they have matured. One owner bought a cask as a wedding present for their bride to mark their special day. We have owners who have travelled the world to be here to fill or visit their cask. The perfect excuse to come and visit the distillery we reckon.
HOW MANY BOTTLES DO I GET FROM A CASK?
A whole cask gives you 300 bottles of whisky. But remember, you don’t have to drink them all at once, and you can sell some of the bottles back at the end of the process if you wish.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO BUY A WHOLE CASK?
When you buy a cask you initially put down a ‘deposit’ which starts from £3,000 depending on the cask type (we have three different cask types for sale at the distillery, to find out more about them head to our cask page and make an enquiry). Then, when you want to bottle the cask (typically after either 5 or 10 years) you will need to pay for bottling, shipping, duty and taxes in your country of residence.
I DON’T HAVE ROOM IN MY HOUSE - WHERE WILL MY CASK BE STORED?
Don’t worry, we realise most of our cask owners don’t have their own cellar full of whisky maturing in their basement. We keep the cask here at the distillery, to mature in our bonded warehouses until the whisky is ready to be bottled and sent to you.
