Whisky sustainability

RETURN

We offer our UK customers who buy directly from our website, or trade customers who buy direct, the opportunity to send their used bottles back to us free of charge so that we can put them back out into the whisky world. Each bottle returned saves 280g of carbon compared to putting the bottle in the recycling.

REFILL

We have a refill station in our distillery bar which is a handy option for locals and returning visitors, plus they can save a few pounds at the same time.

If you are coming to us anyway, or if you live locally you can bring your empty bottles back and we will refill them for you so you can take them home again. Each bottle we refill saves 480g of carbon per bottle.

In 2023-2024, 18% of our distillery shop’s Organic Single Malt Scotch sales were from bottle refills.



Sustainable spirits

RE-USE

Lots of people love their bottles even once our spirits are finished, and we have some fantastic ideas here of how you can incorporate them into your homes. Some fixtures and fittings for upcycling can be bought from our UK website here and from our distillery shop.

RECYCLED GLASS BOTTLE

Our use of 100% post consumer recycled glass reduces the carbon footprint of each bottle by 40% compared with virgin glass. Reusable, refillable and recyclable.

NATURAL CORK

Natural cork stopper with a wooden top. Cork is an amazing resource as the thick bark can be stripped every decade to extract the cork without damaging the trees. Both the cork and the wooden top will degrade in your home compost.

NON TOXIC INKS

We print directly onto the bottle using water based inks which are non-toxic.

REDUCING EXCESS

33% of our bottles were sold without the gift tube between 2022 and 2023, compared with 11% the year before. We offer all consumers and customers the option to buy without, and we are working with key retailers to improve this going forward. The tube itself is made from 90% recycled cardboard and can be recycled in household recycling.

BIO TAMPER

As opposed to plastic, we’ve opted for a biodegradable alternative made from renewably sourced wood pulp. You can compost this in your home compost with your stopper.
