NET ZERO

We are officially verified as producing net zero carbon emissions from our own distillery operations (scope 1 and 2) by Environmental Strategies Limited, confirming that the few emissions we produce whilst distilling are equal to the amount which we have removed from the atmosphere.

Renewable energy distillery

ENERGY

Our two copper pot stills are powered solely by our biomass boiler. Biomass is a renewable energy source where we use wood chip from the local forest for its power; all the trees that are harvested are replanted. Additionally, for the remainder of power we need, we source renewable electricity from our energy partners, Engie. Engie are a global supplier electricity supplier who are committed to accelerate the transition towards a low-carbon world.

FOOTPRINT

The combination of this renewable electricity and our biomass energy means that our footprint for distillery production alone (scopes 1 and 2) for the 2023-24 year was 10.6 tonnes of CO2 per annum. Together with all the emissions associated with our supply chain (scope 3), our total carbon footprint for the whole year was 315.5 tonnes.

To put this into context, on average just one plane’s return journey from London to Rio de Janeiro emits around 315 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) into the atmosphere.

NET ZERO AND OFFSETTING

To achieve our net zero status for distillery operations (scopes 1 and 2), we have got as close to zero emissions as possible, and then have partnered with Highland Carbon to offset our the remaining with carbon removal credits. We do this via a forest protection project (certificated here), for more details click here.
